Default Help!

All,

My car has been absolutely great for over a year but issues are creeping in the closer I get to 180k miles. The question is should I give up with this thing?

My issues:

1) I have a floating in 2nd and 3rd gear issue which is progressively getting worse. If I put my foot down it's perfect but on slight acceleration, it just half engages 2nd and or 3rd and then slides in after floating for up to 30 seconds. Manual changes are spot on.

I'm planning on doing a fluid change and reset of fluid counter and adaptations to see if this works...

2) Heating system doesn't adjust/work to temperature. I have replaced the internal sensor but it doesn't work/change direction I think due to something falling down the centre vents causing a blockage.

3) the Ac doesn't work (linked to 2) but I don't know whether to recharge it as it could be a waste of money.

4) I'd like to do swirl flaps and degunk the top of the engine and ARG but with the gearbox is it worth it....

5) The SatNav was interrupted on an update so I have a permanent update message which I can cancel off so the satnav then works fine. Could be the DVD or could be the hard Disk but the update is stuck so something needs to be done - what?!?

6) I have half of my rea window demist bars not working.

7) The passenger front window has started to work erratically and sometimes won't open at all.

So the question is do I throw money into the small issues and get them resolved one by one or just give up with it?

Thoughts?

** BTW - VIDA reports 3 issues only relating to the heating system, Passenger window and AC system.

LOL! This question has been asked on this forum many times - there is no obvious answer and depends entirely on your situation.

I am an engineer and trying to be more environmentally friendly. I agree with the argument that we should repair rather than replace and stop buying new shiny things just because we can.

The Xc90 is a well engineered vehicle and can last a very long time if well maintained. The Penta diesel engine is used in marine environments and so is built to withstand extreme conditions and is hard wearing. i appreciate is a high mileage and ancillaries will eventually wear out and need fixing/replacing but the engine itself if bullet proof. The gearbox is a concern and you could be heading for a rebuild but at least then you know what if done it will last another 180,000+miles which should match the life left in the engine.

The car is one of the safest on the roads and I would argue that is better to the environment to keep it running rather than scrap and replace with something new, even electric, as contribution to green house emissions from running vehicles is a small percentage compared to industrial and other sources. To make a car at the moment creates huge emissions so best avoided where possible.

The problems you have might seem legion, but if you truly like the car and enjoy driving it and it is in overall reasonable condition outside and inside, I suggest you invest a bit more time and just engage in a rolling maintenance program. Set yourself a budget by calculating the depreciation of a replacement you would buy and use that to help reassure yourself that you are not throwing good after bad. If say the depreciation is 2K, spend a good portion of that over the next year and if you are still unhappy get rid and you have not lost out assuming the depreciation on your XC90 is already small. if you end up spending a bit more but have a sorted car then all good

Not sure if this helps you or not - goof luck in your decision either way.
