Default Anti-skid warning and reduced power

I checked daughter's V50 today after she complained of low power and an anti-skid warning although she didn't know if they occurred simultaneously. I checked the car out with Vida and found only one EGR adjustment error, on the ECM. She thought the car DPF hadn't regenerated for a while (wasn't sure)so I ran a regen in any case which made no difference. I also ran the EGR adaptation routine just for the hell of it.

Having read several members' accounts of these two issues occurring, I'm not really any further forward as it's a somewhat muddy issue. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Thanks.

Dougie.

Fairly likely to be the EGR valve itself that's faulty. Becoming very common on these cars at these ages as seen on recent forum threads. Replace the EGR with a Volvo genuine one (aftermarket can continue to cause problems as I know from my own experience) then recalibrate with VIDA afterwards.

Hello. Had anti skid service light on my 2006 V50 some years ago. If you search this board under username pdig you may find the thread and the cause in the case if my car.

Thanks for that. I also have experience of fitting aftermarket parts (notably the DPF pressure sensor which caused me some sleepless nights ) so that's noted. Out of curiosity, do you know how VIDA would react to deleting the EGR (i.e. disconnecting it and golf-teeing the hose)? It's standard fayre (actually replacing it with a blanking kit is better) on my Rover (BMW engine) and I've done it on a previous Pug 206, both with no consequences for emissions or MPG.

Dougie.

So I went through everything again on the car with Vida and carried out as detailed an inspection as I could without a ramp. There are no errors showing at all now but the car is still running (smoothly) at half power. Not Limp mode so no rev limiters, just low power.

I did check the turbo control valve which operates the waste gate actuator as that was a candidate from previous experience, but it's working correctly. When I rev and hold it (stationary) to around 3,500rpm, it surges up & down a little; at around 4,000rpm, it starts to guff out white diesel-smelling smoke.

I took it this morning to a Volvo/Ford specialist locally who have a clean reputation (I know some of the staff) and had them carry out a diagnostic and physical check as I was out of ideas. Vida showed a MAF reading error and they subsequently found a tear in the bottom of the air flow intake hose going to the turbo which clearly I'd missed.

Brought the car home, changed the hose which got rid of the fault code, cleared the code, but absolutely no difference to the engine performance. Again, no faults now.

I'm therefore thoroughly frustrated. In the absence of any other ideas, I'm now faced with changing parts with my fingers crossed which is far from ideal. I can't physically manage an EGR change either due to shoulder issues. The techs this morning also were lukewarm to nominating the EGR as a candidate anyway as they felt it would throw a fault code.

Any thoughts anyone?
