Hi Lee
Sorry to read your post, its a shame as I know you look after your cars. You see what happens when I move away, keep your chin up , just don't them get the better of you.
PS... yes I've re-joined the club, have a Volvo XC 40 Inscription Pro T5 Recharge on order

At £55 it's cheap though, albeit with hassle if stolen. Worst bit is new/repair downpipe. Plus if have a cat cover need to declare it as a mod to insurance.

Have a BM make full exhaust inc downpipe and so far lasting well. 4-5 years old. Under car today changing oil cooler hoses.

Ebay and facebook market place has lots of adverts of lock ups holding hundreds of Cats . The police could easily raid them and until the "owners" can show evidence of legal purchase etc the cats are kept for 2 weeks then disposed of . There are only 2 groups of people stealing them in London .Romanians and Albanians .

SORTED!

All done and back on the road.

My local garage sourced an exhaust system back from the CAT. I obtained a CAT and front down pipe from "CATS2u" and an oxygen sensor from "RTG". Great service from both suppliers and according to my garage, everything fitted without modification or effort.

As an added bonus the garage did an MoT as the old one crept into the 4 weeks early test limit whilst the car was with them and despite the lack of any prep work from me, the car passed. So now it has 13 months MoT as well as a complete new exhaust from manifold to tail pipe.

Emissions well within MoT limits but CO is higher than with the original Volvo CAT so will be interesting to see if the replacement lasts the 24 years of the original which I somehow doubt.

Cheers,
LeeP

We are having a huge amount of cats stolen where I live but I am constantly being told that they won't be interested in my 940 one, looks like I am being told wrong.

Does parking lengthways along a fence, driver's side, make much difference to them getting the cat off?

For the most part, the cat thieves tend to target later Japanese cars with original cats and tend to overlook anything over 20 years old as being likely to have an aftermarket cat fitted which isn't worth as much as an OE cat on anything, especially a non-Japanese car.

However, this isn't a hard and fast rule as this thread obviously demonstrates.

Parking by a fence against the drivers side is one option but is awkward for you getting in/out via the passenger door but would only really be a deterrent. That leaves two more options, one is invest in a "Cat-Guard", second (for you at least) is to decat it before they do which you are legally entitled to do as you have an LPG conversion on it.
I don't know if "Cat-Guards" are available for the 7/9xx models, many companies will view them as too old and "niche market" to produce one, i'd go for the decat option and gain a few horses and mpg as well.

If you're going to take that view, can you honestly say you don't purchase anything from any of those 75 companies?

Everyone has their part to play

Hi Derek,

I have a '97, 945 LPT.

Garage is Robe & Hitchens, 127, Marlpit Lane, Coulsdon, CR5 2HH (01737 552327).

They are not classic car specialists and doubt they would want to get involved in long term restoration projects. However, I have been using them for 20 years, always the same guys (consistency) and mechanics of a certain age who served their apprenticeship when our cars were newish. As well as exhaust have done timing belt, water pump and various suspension work on 945. Also have done odd jobs on our MGB, XJS and modern Toyota / Honda over the years. Mark runs the front office and always endeavors to find sensible solutions to problems. Say hi to them from me.

Cheers,
LeeP
