I'll buck the trend....

@ five minutes work to release the front bumper sufficiently on one side to remove the headlight.

I have complete removal of bumper down to @ 10 minutes

Then headlight bulb changing is easy.

Its reminiscent of the old tale from the 60s about the Rolls Royce owner taking it into the garage to have the ashtray emptied. It is bad design, it seriously denigrates the very word and would wager that no-one really noticed until it was too late. Press ahead and see if we can can get away with it. It is depressingly the attitude from all kinds of manufacturers, especially hi tech.
Bah...

I daresay. There was a time when I could, and had to change a clutch cable that kept snapping on a Vauxhall Viva in 15 mins. I'm not planning to do this job that often.

Well hopefully someone at Volvo got a good kicking for the V70 headlamp design.
Maybe that is why on a V50 the entire headlamp unit is of a quick-release design and can easily be removed in less than five seconds.

Good tip that from vroom,i'l be using that one next time,i know we moan about the difficulty in replacing the bulbs but spare a thought for the old mercedes A140 owners-if the alternator packs up you have to take the engine out to sort it.

I believe Porsche was the first to do that on the Boxster.

Had this issue with the real swine of a job - the passenger side bulb where the air filter box reduces the working space to a few inches. Being on holiday meant I couldn't do it myself so we called by Halfords in Bangor. A young lady there readily agreed to do the job - it took her five minutes and cost me £13.50 including the bulb. Top marks where they are due.

Smile top tip

my top tip is use some masking tape round the end of your longest finger, to tape the new bulb around the pins..make sure the tab is upright, then manouver it into place, you can't really see much then using another finger when its in place push the rim of the bulb so that the finger can be pulled free with tape still on le digit if you've done it right.. its definitely a pig of a design..
