Low idle and lumpy
Any advice / recommendations welcome:
I have a 1978 244DL with the B21A engine (auto) and recently my brother and I replaced the gaskets etc. on the carb using a kit from Skandix. The engine has been slowly getting lower revs on idle to the point now when you engage a gear (it's auto) it stalls itself. I wondered if anyone had any recommendations? Is there a mobile specialist that could come and tweak / tune etc. in Leeds / West Yorkshire area? |

This link should take you to the Volvo green book covering carburettor systems for your motor car. It is easy enough to follow, but if you have any problems let me know. http://www.myvolvolibrary.info/Tech_...el_Systems.pdf I'm guessing the carburettor was not performing properly before you changed the gaskets (otherwise you probably wouldn't have bothered changing them). Before you start though, check everything else is right first: a. Run a compression test to make sure everything is right mechanically. b. Check the points and timing. c. Check the air filter. d. Make sure there are no leaks. After that just go through the set up procedure in the green book methodically for your carburettor. One thing that does come to mind is the slow running adjuster being a bit loose and slowly vibrating closed a bit - that happened with the RB some time ago, the solution was a tiny dab of thread-lock, just enough to tighten things up a bit. Good fortune, Alan

Hi Alan
Thanks for your note, I'll check it out. Yes the carb was leaking fuel prior to the rebuild. It's the Stromberg CDSU carb. Will check out your recommendations, thank you. Colin |
