Loads of discussions on here regarding the XC90 manual and auto debate but suffice to say the more you read the more the auto comes out on top (mapped or not have absolutely no idea or hope of sporting drive). Assured and refined yes but there is no driver involvement. |

Our 850R is tuned and heavily modified so I guess that’s where my playtime and driver involvement comes in. The XC would prove to be a safe and comfortable tow vehicle |

The auto as you no doubt know is the Aisan Warner as fitted to toyotas and Lexus etc and capable of intergalactic mileages with ease. However volvo, unlike Toyota sold the auto with a sealed for life myth whereas Toyota had a service interval. With fluid changes (£75 quid a pop and done on the drive with ease - don’t even jack it up!) every 75k they generally last forever whereas your manual has an expensive dual mass flywheel. Also bear in mind any of the euro 5s are out as they didn’t sell with a manual period and that you will have no choice of anything. A quick check on autotrader reveals 388 mk1 XC90 of which 373 are auto. The remaining 15 available (across the entire united kingdom) are almost all active or S models so that’s electric windows with half cloth interior and basically nothing else). Good luck with your search just don’t rule out the very very reliable, efficient and good autos. |

Out of interest how has the R been? Someone I know is considering selling there very nice looking 85R estate with 200K on the clock. What would you say is a decent ball park for something like this in good everyday serviceable condition?

Reference the 850 it’s tricky to know how to price, auto, manual etc history and body work condition Lots of imports on the market currently I’ve had the 850 10 years and it’s been a labour of love to get it share it needs to be as it stands now Put it this way the wife thinks it’s cost half as much as I’ve told her!! |
