Default Rear Door Open Warning light

I Occasionally get this "rear door open" warning light alarm just after setting off - the interior lights come on - stopping, opening & closing the door clears the alarm. The switch location isn't obvious - is it some sort of proximity switch near the lock? Has anyone any ideas?

HI,

I would suspect that it is linked to the interior light switch as you say the lights come on.

These are usually in the B pillar and in a rubber "glove". Look around where the door hinges are..
Could be that if it made in a similar way to traditional switches of this sort then an adjustment of the contact arm should solve the issue.
For adjustment, read slight bend. A clean up to make sure there is good contact would also help..

gone are the days of the protuding mechanical switch which pushes in when you close the door - these were easy to fix.

I belive on the S60 the interior light switch is built into the lock mechanism in the actual door.

I personally don't know much about this - but I've ready somewhere that the lock mechanism in the door has to be replaced.

I'll try and find where I saw this... hope it's not the case!

Here you go - a very similar link - different model but same dsign:

New lock because of a faulty switch???
Sounds like waste and unecessary carbon production to me..
I think the switch should be replaceable...
Or maybe I am just getting old and far to sensible for car makers...

Mine did this, the problem just got worse and worse. Had a new doorlock fitted under warranty. The microswitch which tells the car the door is shut is in the doorlock - all replaced as one unit.

I think it's a £200 job, lots of similar threads on here

hahahah!!!! £200 for a switch that turns the interior light on and off and tells the alarm what the door is up to! madness!!!

Even if it's out of warranty I'd argue that the part was not to to the job under the sales of goods act. they replaced a perfectly simple plunger switch which is readily accessble and cheap to replace with a new design which costs a small fortune to replace fo what it is - it shouldn't fail.

That's the trouble with modern cars, the old fashioned dirty bits last forever so they had to find something new to make their money on.

Looks like bad news then - has anyone tried stripping the lock - is there anything repairable? contacts that can be cleaned or anything?
