ATE brakes are rare on 240's I have seen most ATE brakes on 260's but the odd 240 does have them. 140's and 164's tend to be 50/50 and then the 7 and 900 series are almost all ATE
The differnce in size pads you describe is around the differnce between ATE and Girling. The pin spacing is also slightly off between the two |

Hi all
Without wanting to send this thread in another direction, but what are some good choices of brake pads for a 240? Pads which give OE or better performance, but perhaps are cheaper? I'm not talking about the sort of pads which require upgraded disks, or are for motorsport uses - I just want something which works well, and will last a number of years. Thanks John H |

I only use Volvo pads on 240's but I do also stock Mintex pads. I would avoid using race pads on the road

Just bringing up an old thread here...
I'm wondering if classicswede or someone can help: I recently ended up with two sets of front disc pads - a Volvo-brand one, and also a set of Mintex MGB576. I am curious about the Mintex ones because the box says 'This material must not be used on public highway'. They are denoted as M1144 pad material, and for Fast Road/Rally use. Why is it you can't use them in normal road use? Is it that they're all about not failing at high temperatures, and aren't so great at grabbing at low speeds? By the way the Volvo pads are on the car, I'm just wondering what to do with these Mintex ones. John Last edited by Jungle_Jim; Oct 1st, 2015 at 14:33. |

[QUOTE=classicswede;1948052]ATE brakes are rare on 240's I have seen most ATE brakes on 260's but the odd 240 does have them. 140's and 164's tend to be 50/50 and then the 7 and 900 series are almost all ATE
My SE appears to have ATE on the rear as I've just discovered having suffered a seized caliper. Completely trashed the disk and pads . I couldn't find a sticker in the back of the car as Paul suggested so I've gone on the pictures on the Brookhouse web site..........hope I've ordered the right one! Dave A.

^^^^^Funny you should mention that. A mate here has a UK SE model. Had a squealy brake issue going on when reversing. Asked me to look & that turned out to be a stone trapped in the brake gubbins.
But the SE had (1991) had no sticker in the boot like yours & pretty sure they are ATE too..... Maybe they used up what they had on the end of line models?
