My armrest is a big chunky one with slip out cup holders in it, but it is not screw fixed so flaps around and slides off, seems to be too long?. Is there a way of fitting it?.. old owner said it was from the 960 snd ne never got around to fixing it in.

Sounds likely as there are several types of armrest depending on model. Most for 960 mk2 and S/V90 have cupholders as standard. Cupholders are an option on 940 and a rare one at that. Send us some photos.

Sounds like a 960 one, in my opinion it is way too big and gets in the way of using the handbrake.
There should be two screws securing it to a hinge. |

There is a hinge but the arm rest seems to be a tad longer?.. on my google images the 940 flap is flat? Much thinner... ithis arm rests quite chunky and padded. Be nice to get it to fit

You will find plenty of useful hints and tips - one is get some Carlube ATF-Q which is Laird Scooby's go-to solution for all manner of mechanical ailments. Another is to not be afraid to ask questions - that's the best way to learn. (See my first paragraph.)

As for the armrest, the 940 cupholder armrest is slightly longer than the standard one and has a cushion built into it, If you can get it secured to the hinge, it will improve matters considerably. Like Loki said, questions aren't generally dumb - i always say the dumbest question is the one that hasn't been asked! If you don't know and don't ask the question, it's all too easy to foul something up expensively - much better to ask the question and get an answer, even if the answer seems obvious and you just want confirmation. You'll find as you go through ownership, there are lots of little changes to the cars over the years, even seemingly similar models. As such if/when you need to ask for help, the first thing to let us know is what year, model, engine and transmission it has, at least that way we have a starting point to be able to help. Oh yeah, nearly forgot - welcome aboard!

Hi 94tee,
Belated welcome from me. This is a great forum and the most active and informative of the four car clubs I am in. Somebody will always have the answer - eventually. Also, don't worry about "dumb" questions. Most of us are grateful when they are asked so we can learn to! Congratulations on picking one of the best designed and built cars around in my opinion. After 25 years of driving 740s / 940s and only breaking down once (duff battery) my Volvo driving days are probably coming to an end (another story) but I hope you enjoy yours. Cheers, LeeP |
