Sticky buttons/dials on S70, found a cure 😊
Bought an S70 yesterday which is beautiful, but suffering from the butyl coating on the window switches/ heating controls breaking down and forming a disgusting goo.
Found a thread saying that Pledge with a microfibre cloth worked and so I gave it a go. Brought all the window switches up clean after a couple of minutes and the heater dials after about 20 minutes. Honestly amazed. I would add photos, but I can't see how on my phone's little screen. |

Yes the buttons on these cars do get rather disgusting to the touch.
I don't think the 850's had this coating? |

Clean buttons make all the difference. I don't understand why Volvo applied that stuff in the first place. Some buttons on my C70 have it and others don't, the V40 is the same but not the same buttons. For example the window switch pack in the C70 does, but the V40 doesn't. 'Sticky Stuff Remover' and Isopropyl Alcohol is also very effective.

Great post, thanks for this. I've had a few V70s and they've all suffered from this disgusting problem. I couldn't clean the tacky residue off and bought replacement switches for them all... if only I knew this back then!
The 850s don't have this coating, and so don't get sticky. They can be cleaned easily with the usual interior shampoos.
