1.7 Renault engine water-works
Dear All,
While I'm a 760 and 940 owner we also have a Renault 19 1.7. I wonder whether anyone can help with a problem that has occurred with its engine - assuming that the Volvo version of this engine is similar in the relevant respect. It has developed a serious water leak where a stub of metal water pipe goes into the block at the back of the water pump. Radweld held it for about 5 minutes then it "burst" again. I do not know whether the pipe has corroded or the block - you can see a gap where the two join, with water coming out! Before I take the water pump off, can anyone tell me (a) how the pipe is attached to the block, (b) can it be mended easily, and (c) where could I get a replacement pipe if needed? My first thought (after radweld) was to patch it with "chemical metal" (that araldite type product) - but I would like to investigate doing a proper job first, if possible. Many thanks, Ian, Leicester. |
