Default Keyfob unlocks fine but doesn't lock great

Guys having seen that other key fob thread reminded me to post this.

V70xc on 2000 plate. We have one key fob for the car.
When we got the car I had to buy a replacement cover as the original was broken around the keyring holder

Anyway when we go to unlock the car it always works 1st time
However when we lock the car it doesn't always lock. Sometimes you have to press it many times until.it locks.

Is this a sign of a flat battery or other gremlins?

Thinking about it logically, it requires the same amount of battery power for the fob to send the open signal as the close signal. However, the two functions have their own switches so the problem is most likely to be with the lock switch.

I would , as Iain said, first be asking questions of the fob switch.

I had a problem that sounds just like this with my MY2001 S80. It would always unlock, but sometimes it would not lock at all. It turned out the problem was because when I removed the key from the steering lock sometimes, just sometimes, the barrel would not pop out the final 1/16 inch or whatever. I only worked this out after several months of on/off opening when I realised one day I hadn't heard the usual noise a split second after I removed the key from the steering wheel lock - I then put it back in and pulled it out again and it clicked and the car locked on the fob. Now every time I make sure I hear that little click - if not, I put the key back in, or sometimes just hit the lock gently with the key, and it pops out and then no problem. Your mileage may differ but ...

This issue could also be a worn switch in the fob. They are only 70p each to replace (so best to do them all) but as they are so small soldering them is a royal PIA if you've not done it previously.

My test for checking for a worn button is to hear and feel. It should sound a really positive click and it should also sound a very positive click. Check against the least used one on your fob.

Last but not least, they are available in different pressures. I went for one where I can rally feel that click - a great bit of POSITIVE feedback.

Would you care to share with us where you got the spare switches from and any part number info please. Could be useful at that price.
