Default Strange Alarm/Central Locking Problem

Hi all

My XC90 appears to have developed a strange fault with the alarm/central locking.

Historically when you locked the car with the key fob, you would get one flash of the indicators, and you would see that the little red LED on the dashboard would start to flash every couple of seconds.

Correspondingly, When unlocking the car you get two flashes of the indicators and the red dashboard LED would stop flashing.

As of last Friday morning this process has changed as follows:

when you lock the car with the key fob, you still get one flash of the indicators, and see that the little red LED on the dashboard would start to flash every couple of seconds.

However, and this is where the change is:

When you unlock the car, the indicators do not double flash, and the red LED does not turn off. All the doors and boot are unlocked and you can enter the car as normal. Inserting the key into the ignition and turning position 2, causes the indicators to flash twice and only then does the red LED stop flashing.

Note if you unlock the car and attempt to relock it straight away, you do not even get the single flash as described, presumably because the alarm hasn't yet been cancelled.

The question is, why has this behaviour changed? Is there anything I can do to change it back at home, or is a visit to a dealer required? How long can I leave it? or is it symptomatic of a problem that is likely to worsen?

Other than that the car starts and runs fine at the moment.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Mike

Is there a message stating "Alarm System Service Required"?

Do you know if your siren is working?

Hi Mike
The exact same thing happened to my S60 yesterday.
There is no message coming up in the display. Everything seems fine apart from the LED not going off until the ignition is turned
I hope someone knows what the fault is and how to rectify.

I suggest you locate a specialist and have them run diagnostics to see if they can oncover anything.

Where are you based?

I would check all doors and bonnet are properly shut as it sounds as if the alarm is not able to set correctly,if you also want to check the siren is working lock the car with the drivers window down once alarm is set reach open and pull the bonnet that should set the alarm ie indicators flash and siren should go off.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
The alarm sets properly, but doesnt disarm fully (ie, hazards dont flash) until I turn car on, but the alarm is deactivated as the siren doesnt go off prior to turning car on. The panic button on key fob sets the siren off when pressed so I know the siren works!
