Default Why?? No participation.

I recently went to the Classic and Sports car show at Tatton Park.
There were over 2500 cars on show, all types and ages.
The Mercedes owners club, Subaru owners, Rolls Royce, Jaguar Triumph,Ford,TVR, Jensens, etc etc....
But in all the shows I have been to in the last 2/3 yrs......NO Volvo clubs or stands!!!!.

I think max last Sunday at a gathering of 2500+ cars I saw 3 Volvos in that lot and they were spread about on various stands.

How come is every body ashamed of their cars or what??

I know we have the various BKV's but that is all "in house" as it were.

Surely somthing can be put together to attend something like this to promote the Club and the Volvo marque.
There are a number of well capable show vehicles to be found in the Club to start with.

Can members comment on this and give their feelings?

If not for the glory perhaps a good weekend out

What shows we can attend (work commitments) we very rarely see any other volvos , but you have to remember that at these car shows The classics on display are mostly british from when we did have a car industry and foreign imports were few and far between .

Me and the family travel to a good few car shows up and down the country, but rarely are there any Volvos on show, in fact i don`t remember seeing any this year so far.

I think apart from the odd few Volvos in general just used abused and run it to the ground.

Well then we need to convince the club to put on a stand for members to attend. Apart from the solely club events the only multi marque events that the club attend to my knowledge is Alexander Palace (which I think is now defunct) and the one at the NEC in Nov.

Put your views to the club.

Please bear in mind that we do not all have the funds to run about the country to attend car shows.

What for some is a 'local' event can be a long haul for others possibly involving one or two overnight stays. Also, although the shows are taking place it may be that many members here are not aware of these shows. I don't even know where Tatton Park is, for example, never mind that there is a car show there.

I, and others, have been known to travel the length and breadth of Scotland to attend our local section events and others that are advertised to us. Yes, some travel even further than that.

If you want to see Volvo Owners Club stands at various shows I suggest that you try to get things organised through the local section officials in the first instance as they should have the access to any banners, tents and other bits and pieces (and possibly funds where fees are required for stands).

An interesting topic....

Here in the south we have quite a few Volvo enthusiasts (several being over retiring age, so running on depleted income) and there is an entire summers-worth of shows within easy reach. We never miss a weekend in taking one of our classic Volvo's to support the marque/show the flag, lots of our friends doing likewise.

There were over half a dozen classic Volvo's amongst the 1100+ cars on show at last weekends show at Cranleigh; we didn't have a club stand (that will hopefully change next year!) but we obviously mingle, and non-members often discuss our cars - thats how club recruitment works, too.

Years ago at a BKV I asked the question - why is the BKV always miles north of the probable densest number of members with Volvo's (London), and I was told that the centre of Britain was geographically the fairest as it gives Scottish members an equal opportunity of attending. However, with fuel costs so high, neither a Cornish or Glasgow member would find at BKV at Newark an attractive drive! This is why the Southern BKV was resurrected, and very successful it is too.

Just about every enthusiast we know from London and the south couldn't afford to go to York for the BKV, but we all made the Southern BKV. Therefore the answer lies in the hands of localised enthusiast groups and sections - organise your own mini-BKV.

We now organise the annual Volvo Gathering at Bentley, in Sussex, where we get over 40 Volvo's, and a fine social event it is too. I went to the classic car show at Uxbridge (NW of London) a few years ago, and there was a packed Volvo stand there: when I asked if there would be a stand this year I was told there was a lack of interest - not according to Forums response and my own enquiries!

Not wishing to put the Club on the spot, it would be interesting to get some official response to this thread.

Finally, for interest, some members of both the Porthsmouth Section and our Sussex Section will be at the big show at Broadlands over the Bank Holiday, where we will individually try to provide a range of classic Volvo's for the public to appreciate. A club stand would be nice for next year, but its out of our territory so no treading on toes......

I was under the impression that the recent BKV held in the Midlands had a very high turnout indeed. It has always made sense that nationwide events be held in the midlands, I guess that why the N.E.C. is near Birmingham. I don't want to make this a North-South thing just in the middle.
