Default Rusty nuts!

I have noticed that 4 of the 5 wheel nuts are just normal steel nuts painted silver. They have started to go rusty! Seems very cheap on a car with alloy wheels. Only the locking nut is chrome.

Are all XC90's like this?

Mine is an '05 T5

Hi Stuart,
I have an 05 too and exactly the same deal - I agree it's dissappointing. I had an XC70 the same too.
I have already repainted them once with 'wheel silver' - but have just replaced them with chromed sets as it didn't take long for it to start showing through again.
The chrome set were genuine parts courtesy of a well know auction site - but I know they are available from Volvo direct too.
I have also just seen on the Boston Volvo (BV) website sets of chromed plastic covers to put over the top of the nuts instead of replacing the originals.
Would be worth doing a price comparison with your local dealer if you want to change them as BV are quite competetive even including postage.

Cheers
Ian.

What irks me is that for the cost of the car why are decent wheel nuts not included it strikes of penny pinching.

Hello, i have a 54 plate T6 SE and had the same problem with the rusty nuts. They looked terrible on a car that was only 18 months old when i got it. i've got to say that my local dealer changed them under warranty with no hassle at all. Regards, DJC3

Yes, seems to be a common problem, the dealer will change them under warranty if you ask. It seems to be a Swedish not just a Volvo thing - my Saab 9-5 also had rusty nuts before its third birthday !

My 54 plate T6 has chrome wheel nuts which were on it when we bought it last October.

Agree with the comments about Saab my 04 plate 93 Aero had one set changed under warranty, then they rusted so the current dealer solution is black plastic caps for the nuts but they won't do anything about the rusted locking nuts.

I've had Saabs for the last 10 years but I'm getting fed up with their penny pinching and won't buy another one. I've been really pleased with the Volvo and will be dissapointed if they go the same way.
