Warning Lights after service
New to club and would like some help please.
My 2006 S40 diesel needed a 3 year service, Volvo delaer quoted £360 and local garage £110 so went local. When i got the car back the service indicator was reset but the Airbags warning light wont go off and the passenger footwell courtesy light also stays on.... Garage told me to disconnect battery for an hour and it would reset but it hasn't. Anyone have any theories on this ie. do i need to take to main dealer for diagnostic reset or maybe local garage have dislocated something changing the cabin filter. any help appreciated |

Sounds like they've crossed over two of the cables behind the glovebox whilst doing the service. I believe the permanently-on foot light is a good indication of the crossed wires going to the control module behind the dash.

So you let a garage have your car, pay £110 for the privilege and then when it doesn't work, they tell you to disconnect the battery?
How do they know that you can safely do this without damaging sensitive electronics within car or worse still causing explosion if battery inadvertantly shorts live to chassis with negative still connected? ( Unless of course you are technically able and they know it!) If cables are swapped around when cabin filter was changed then just hope thay no other damabge has been done ie bent pins, electrical damage etc. Also the garage must have know of this fault when they gave the car back. The old adage, you pays your money and takes your choice. |

yep you get what you pay for .. they dont know anything about the finer details of the car , take the car back , let them sort it which will be easy once they phone their local dealer . would you buy a Ferrari and take it to a back street garage to let them learn on?
Two faults here , they have transposed the connectors on the back of the glovebox , AND as they have to remove the CEM when changing the pollen filter they have caused the SRS code by disconnecting the CEM without first disconnecting the battery ...

good point , if the 8th character in the VIN is a 5 then yes they should have filled the additive tank ( a £100 job in itself )

Volvo delaership transposed the glove and footwell lights on mine. I tried to sort it out myself and caused the SRS light to come on by disconnecting the wrong wire. You'll have to take it somewhere who can access the airbag control unit (most garages can't) to be reset. Make sure the back streer garage pay for it!

I bought a 4 year old s60 a couple of years ago, the previous owner had had the last service done by his local garage, not a dealer, it had a slight hesitation under hard acceleration, when due for next service I had the next service done by dealer, and all the items that should have been done on the previous service as well, problem solved. You get what you pay for! Good luck sorting out your problem though.
