Default RE: Thrust bearing

Just an update, I found a Volvo man near me, he had a listen and said its the spigot bearing, and said not to bother unless it gets much much worse. Or wait till the clutch needs replacing as he said, its around 4 hours for an £8 bearing so he said if he were me he wouldnt bother till it was unavoidable.

Default Same Noise

Hi, I’m new to your site and its most interesting.
I had a 740 estate for 10 years and it always made this noise intermittently on pulling away in first gear, it didn't get any worst or better.
I have now just got a 940 R reg estate and it makes the same noise again, maybe it will carry on for another 10 years without a clutch failure; however the noise is annoying and I would prefer if it weren’t there, I assume if it is the spigot bearing it means a gearbox out job to replace it, as I guess there’s no way of lubricating it in sittu.
On another noise I’ve noticed with my new Volvo is tapping noise from the bottom end of the engine; it’s a regular tapping/knocking in pace with the revs of the engine, it doesn’t increase in intensity/loudness on accelerating so I guess its not a bearing(main or bigend) I’m wondering if it’s a pump(oil ?)
Maybe the engine is supposed to make this tapping and I’m not use to it yet as its new to me?
Any suggestions will be most welcome
Thanks
David

thanks, my 940 with a b200f and m47 gearbox has been doing this for the last 4000 miles or so, i never thought my clutch was dying... im just annoyed to hear theres nothing i can really do to sort it.

i think ive adapted my driving style to suit it and have a jerkier clutch movement now. :(
