No replacement windscreen for XC40
I’ve only had my XC40 since January- it’s my second one.
At the beginning of October the bottom of the windscreen was hit by what appeared to be a bolt thrown up from the car in front. A 4” crack immediately appeared. So I contacted Autoglass as per my insurance cover. They made an appointment for two weeks later to replace the glass. The day before the appointment, they phoned me to say the glass hadn’t arrived and made an appointment a week later. A week later they contacted me to say the glass still wasn’t in. They expected it in on 16th November, which came and went. I’ve complained to their head office and they told me it’s on back-order and they don’t know when it will arrive. So I contacted my Volvo dealer and they told me the same. I have raised a complaint with Volvo UK but don’t know what else I can do? Suggestions? |

If it is on back order from Volvo, there isn't much you can do other than wait for it to come back in stock. I assume the crack isn't preventing you from using the car.

Fortunately the crack is moving vertically rather than to the right, so it’s still legal to drive. Not sure what will happen when it reaches the top of the screen, even though it’s laminated. It’s moving at about an inch a week as I drive about 450 miles per week.

Your second one? What happened to the first one?
Anyway, you'll live. Quit being a Karen!

Is Autoglass proposing to replace your windscreen with a Volvo original? If not, then their stock problem is probably unrelated to your dealer's stock problem.
Also, did your Volvo dealer actually say that Volvo UK is out of stock or just that they're out of stock? (They may just have interrogated their own stock or the stock within their group.) When my windscreen got broken by a body shop last year, they ordered a non-Volvo replacement screen, which broke in transit, and then ordered a second non-Volvo screen, which cracked minutes after I drove the car away. Then I insisted that they obtain a Volvo original but that came back out of stock from the dealer with whom they had an account. So I approached my local Volvo specialist who was kindly able to identify another nearby dealer with stock, and I passed that information onto the body shop. What followed thereafter I'm not certain, but they did manage to get a Volvo screen from somewhere and the car's been fine ever since. So, it might be that there are no windscreens in the country right now but that also might not actually be the case. Getting to the bottom of that might be useful.
