Prices when new...
Anyone have an idea of how much 240 GLT's estates were when new(approximate figure)? My Dad bought a brand new 740GL in 1989 from Ian Allan in Wimbledon, and would be interested to know how much more a 1990 GLT would have been... Is there a suggested price list from the 80's kicking about or anyone remember off the top of their heads prices for the 80's range or cars?
Thanks folks

OK....so
Just for fun and not answering your question... On my Czech insurance document it lists the original list price in Czech for a GL as 691,900 kc. Which with the current exchange rate give 23,858 GBP :-) |

I don't have to documents on hand as I scrapped them with the car, but if I remember correctly, my 1989 GLT estate cost somewhere in the region of £22,000 when new. Which, according to the Bank of England's inflation adjuster, would equate to a hair over £40,000 today, which is a sight more than you'd pay for a brand new fully loaded V70!

My father's May 1987 GL Auto Saloon was £9,700 on the road. We bought it through a car broker and saved about £1000 ! It is still running and has been the most reliable car we have ever owned.

I must amend my above post, my memory WAS playing me false - I have just found an advertising poster from 1982 for a 240GLT with an advertised price of £10,248 which means the price TODAY would be about £26,000.
I did work this out exactly with the original purchase invoice of the car, but both the invoice and my memory are gone, it seems! Last edited by wooble; Jan 25th, 2011 at 22:07. |
