850 94/L UK estate - OBD1 box issues
Hello. So I’ve bought this 850 and I’ve got this warning light on the dash, which my manual tells me it’s a ‘Fault in the engine electronic system’.
So looking at the OBD1 part and a lot of videos and charts show ports A1-7 are connected to the different sections. But as you can see on the photo not all of mine are connected, only 4 are connected. So is this an issue I need to fix for my car? Or is it a different part/setup in the UK!? I plugged into port A2 and got the codes 521 & 212. I’m not sure wether to drive it until I know what these codes mean. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks Tim |

Both these codes relate to O2 sensor fault.
Inserting the jump lead into port 2, module A reads the fuel system fault codes, port 6 will give you ignition fault codes Codes can only be deleted once all fault codes have been read. To delete, with jump lead stil in port 2 (or 6) turn ignition on, press and hold the test button for approx 5 seconds, release, when led lights press and hold button for further 5 secs. then release and light should go out Code 1-1-1 indicates no codes stored

So port 6 is empty, I've took a photo. There is only only connectors in 2,3,7.
Are they missing or is a different layout or part to the American versions? |

It all depends on what options you have. If you don't have climate control, then there won't be a contact for that. If you have a manual gearbox, then you won't have a contact for the auto box ECU.
The missing contact in pin 6 (for the ignition fault codes) would lead me to assume you've got a 10v engine with the Siemens/Fenix ECU. This ECU handles both fuel and ignition and so both sets of fault codes can be read from pin 2, and pin 6 is not needed. |

Right that makes sense, that was a bit of common sense failure by me there! It’s a manual without A/C, so that’s why they don’t have ports.
The engine is the B5234T 20v, could that still have the combined ignition and engine code port!? Also, the codes 521 & 212 from the A2 port I’ve been told is O2 sensor warning. Is this something needs sorting straight away? Or can I still drive on it? Thanks |

Have you cleared the fault codes? If not, see my previous post on how to do this.
Sometimes, a good hard run is enought to clean the O2 sensors, ultimately though you may need replacements, new regs mean it will fail MOT if the light is on. It doesn't necessarily mean there's a fault with the engine, it may just be a dirty/faulty sensor, loose connection...I would continue to drive it (I have) untill you can get it sorted

It took me a couple of attempts but I managed to clear the codes. I took it for a 30 mile run and the orange red dash light came back on .
I’ll probably wait until I need to get something else done, and get this done at the same time. Thanks |
