S80 Towing Electrics Question !!
I am just in the process of looking at purchasing a "car specific" 7 pin wiring kit for my 2001 s80 such as this one :-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-Pin-Car-Spec...d=p3911.c0.m14 I only intend at this moment in time to use it for a trailer board when I have the cycles on the back. I have read on here various other threads as to whether or not the cars have a deditated socket for these kits to plug into and whether or not they bypass the bulb failure system. My question is this, am I being stupid in thinking that if you replace the bulbs on the trailer bar with LED bulbs it wouldn't matter didldy squat!! Wouldn't the extra current draw that LED's use be too low to trigger the bulb failure system ??

There is supposed to be a socket for the towing electrics around the spare wheel somewhere. I think that you don't need to worry about the bulb failure system with it although I am not sure - there would be little point in it if it didn't. In any case if we assume there is no socket, or that the socket doesn't sidestep the load detection issue (I think it does though) all you need to do is connect into the main loom using relays rather than the usual scotch locks. That'll side step the load detection circuit (but the car wouldn't "know" if a bulb had gone on the towbar).
