If a diesel is clagged up enough to fail the emissions test then "taking it for a blast" is 20 or 30 miles of motoring at moderately high engine speeds, and then straight into the MOT bay while the engine is still piping hot hot hot!
If you've not done that type of mileage at at least 3000 rpm then the Italian tune up is unlikely ease things, assuming of course that is the problem.

To be honest that level of diesel crud doesn't look too bad.
I would make sure that your MAF and MAP sensors are clean as these can effect emissions ( use a dedicated contact cleaner/ sensor cleaner). Whilst I am generally a fan of fuel additives I wouldn't expect too much if there is an underlying issue. Liqui Moly have a decent reputation though and for the cost its no great loss if it doesn't work. Maybe have a search for a local garage that offers terraclean which is a similar kind of thing but potentially a lot more effective (does cost more though). |

Try this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Fill up with Shell Vpower.and go for some long drives - 50+ miles at motorway speeds. If that doesn't solve it I don't know what will. |

Op - some info here https://motorcompanyleicester.co.uk/...diesel-engine/ I think you should probably get the egr off and cleaned out, new air filter and see what effect that has. Dpf could also maybe benefit from a clean but I suspect that the issue is before that point. |

canH missing
The canH signal missing i think means your diag tool wont be reading any of the engine related values, which probably means your missing the most useful info.. might be worth checking the pins on the obd2 connector and clean with some switch cleaner or similar..
just a thought.. |
