What are you choosing in the field for modification when you quote insurance with polestar?

It’s Direct lines loss. My renewal is due in the next 2 weeks and it’s no longer with them. I have taken out a policy from LV that’s £130 cheaper.

It’s a winner for me, polestar and cheaper insurance. It pays to shop around.
I had the same issue with my Insurance. Aviva will not cover me with the Polestar upgrade. Issue for them is the increase in 5 BHP on my XC90 (about 2%).
Any change in the HP means the underwriter says no. As my policy is on a rolling basis I just cancelled it and took one out with LV. Cost a little less than what I was paying Aviva though my excess is now higher.

All in all, happy with the upgrade, I also think the MPG is a tad better. Will be interesting to see how she tows next week-end.

Got the Polestar installed yesterday from the brilliant Cameron Strathmore in Perth, so the 30 odd miles home down the M/W gave me a decent chance to see the difference. It`s like being permanently in Sport mode, though of course labelled 'Polestar Optimisation' in the drive selection now. I left it in 'Comfort' and didn`t use the P.O mode.

I`ll be on a 400 mile drive next week to Doncaster so will get a better feel for fuel consumption and othe drive modes.

But 1st impression is am very happy with it.
That should be 300 miles

Anyway, pretty much all M/W coming home yesterday. 1st 130 miles or so, sitting at 70mph ish. Took it easy. Got to the M6 and sat at 80+ mph for 100 miles. Filled up this morning with 27l of fuel and returned 51mpg. Pretty damned good I think.

So, does P* optimisation give a better MPG? Hard to say but it`s very possible. Certainly at those speeds. Yes, I know there are many factors but going on past experience........

For sure though, it`s a better car to drive now.

Bobarob and Bonefish how did it go? Have you seen much difference in the car since you had P* installed? Especially in Comfort mode?

Overall the car is changed for the better.
In comfort mode, you are aware of the extra power mid range, throttle response is much improved and the gearbox seems to know what gear to be in most of the time. For 80% of your driving you wouldn’t notice, but when overtaking slower vehicles or when you need an extra bit of oomph it does the job much more efficiently.

At the weekend I did a journey of 230 miles on dual carriageway and motorway using cruise / pilot assist for most of it and the average mpg was 47mpg whereas I was getting around 42mpg previously. So under those circumstances the optimisation seems to suit.

I will be towing in a few weeks and am looking forward to seeing if similar mpg gains will be seen.

When in polestar mode, the car is a lot more lively(too much). A big heavy diesel estate is not something I would choose to throw around country roads. It’s a novelty at first, but it doesn’t really add anything.

I have noticed that when in polestar mode, that the handling is much more neutral when pushing on. Prior to tuning, the front end would start to washout under heavy cornering. It’s now much more neutral - due to moving the AWD bias more to the rear.

In summary, -
Was it worth it? Yes

Is it worth the money? Yes and no. I keep cars for around 10 years, so can justify it on that basis.

In short, it transforms the car into what it should have been from the factory. Glad I have it, but annoyed that I had to pay.

On the plus side, the car is worth more today than I paid a year ago. Man maths.

Looks like most UK dealers have an offer on the Polestar Optimisation again.

Having my XC60 T8 recharge modified this Friday. Apparently the £595 offer is nationwide until the end of this month.

TLDR; now £379 at Marshalls

Insurance, Aviva, for me says, "Sorry, your car is not valid for cover", so that is the end of that.
