dont let the insurance co take the car away from the dealers or you may find it impossible to retrieve from them. make sure you keep hold of the v5

Not sure how true this is but heard these engines don’t rebuild very well they are built to very tight tolerances so when things go wrong that’s pretty much it.

If they are rebuilt they are never quite right, I got told this earlier this year when my d5 engine went horribly wrong, I got a low mileage engine from another xc90 with history and touchwood it runs and drives better than it ever has apart from breaking the original boost pipe but to be fair it’s on almost 200000 miles.

I’m sure people with a lot more knowledge will confirm or deny this.

Thanks - just had a chat with Shem - top man indeed.
A fountain of knowledge and common sense.
Just waiting on the insurers.

Main dealer quote....New Volvo engine D5 205 and Turbos x2 £10,800 inc VAT plus labour.

Volvo Customer Care reply...

"I have reviewed your case in regards to the repair of your vehicle.

The outcome of the review is that the retailer will have to handle the issue moving forward as they are the party that have made the mistake, a repair on the vehicle is not something we can authorise and It would be down to the retailer to find a resolution.

I understand this isn't the answer you were hoping for however, I hope this outlines Volvo's position."

However, they can presumably influence the Dealer to do the right thing. Are they prepared to do that, I wonder?

Are you a member of the AA or RAC?

They've helped me in the past.

MD of dealership phoned today and duly apologised.
Nice chap, leaving it in hands of his insurers.
Dealership group does 16,000-18,000 services per year.
I was the unlucky one.
But hasn't moved the situation forward.
A barrister pal says he'll fight the case for an adequate settlement to cover replacement car with the same safety options, hassle, missed holidays....etc. etc...
I'd just like to replace it with same or even newer/lower miles as a goodwill gesture.
Low mileage XC70s with the various safety options, D5, auto, FVSH are as rare as hen's teeth.
