Default 960 3.0L auto box TCM interchangeable?

Anyone know if the TCM in my 960 is interchangeable with other models. I'm a bit wary with these ECUs.

My car is a 1997 960 3.0L 24v.

Mine is P09148498
I've been offered one out of a S90 - P09144366 or P09442859.

I see a few other part numbers, but with engine ECUs some will and some won't work.

Any ideas...

Judge, whats the symptoms with your g-box? Any codes? It should be either a AW43 or AW40 and you need to find out which from the decal tag on the side of the box and the serial number. My experience with these boxes in my 1993 960, is that they are sensitive to good clean hydraulic oil and I would make sure that, if you replace the control box, then you use one with the same numbers.

Thanks - gearbox has just been flushed, but symptoms are:

No Kick down, poor acceleration 0-60 in about 30 seconds.
Gearbox seems to be in limp home mode. Unable to engage "W" mode.

Dash bulb seems to be blown (or removed).

Doesn't the ECU also make you press the brake pedal to remove the shifter from park?

Any alternative diagnosis would be greatly appreciated.

Might sound daft, but there is enough fluid in it isn't there?
That box takes a big old glug, and needs to be hot to check properly AFTER cycling through all the selections on the shifter for a few seconds in each.

Also, the orange arrow of doom should light up when selecting anything past D.

Have you tried resetting the ECU?
Battery disconnected overnight will wipe all the codes. Worked a few times when my PNP switch was playing up.

Edit:
No, the brake pedal feature only appeared on P2 cars afaik.

No I haven't tried disconnecting the battery yet.

There are no codes on my reader and the arrow on the dash board has a blown bulb.

I have a replacement PNP switch as well to try out

Thanks

As Daddy says, check and recheck the fluid level when hot, and I would make sure that any codes are removed. Before you disconnect the battery, note that you have the radio code.

By the way Judge, I've checked the TCM numbers and the one that's on your car now P09148498, is the correct one.
P09144366 is for a AW 30-43 but the profile of its operating criteria are quite different.
P09442859 Although it appears to be a Volvo part number, I can find no reference to that TCM under Volvo.

Thanks - I've got the stereo code so no worries on this one. I'm certainly hoping that the levels are right otherwise I won't be impressed!!

Cheers for the ECU check. I've been offered them cheap. I'm wondering whether to take the risk or not. It could always go on EBay if it is no good.
