Question S40 T4 1.9 BATTERY (Model 2000)

Has anybody the exact specs of the battery of S40 T4 1.9l Year 2000?

My 2nd battery BOSCH S5005 is about to fail after ~6 years and Bosch recommends S5008 model which i find quite too much.

Before I buy again a BOSCH S5005 i want to make sure i satisfy at least the original specs.

Also, are there any consequences at other systems (eg alternator wear) if I buy a higher capacity battery than the original model?

Thanks!

Γειά σου ElGreco. VIDA recommends 520A or 600A. So the Bosch S5005 (610A) should be more than enough. No harm using the S5008 (780A), other than to your pocket and added weight. Considering that Athens has a moderate climate, I don't personally see the point of a larger battery

Cool

Using too big a battery has a very minor effect on the life of the alternator because it will draw more amps when charging. In general terms it's a waste of money fitting a bigger battery, although it's a good idea to exceed the required battery specs slightly. Batteries don't last as long in hot climates.

The amps are really known as cold crank amps, so the higher the rating of amps the better the battery will crank the engine in cold weather starting. So your answer is no, the higher rated amp battery will not harm your car or engine in any way. As londg as the dimensions of your battery are equal then you should be ok.
Electrical power is considered to be "pulled" vs. "pushed" so basically, unless your car has a short and is trying to draw more power than it should it will work.

Thumbs up

As per your comments, the Bosch S5005 seems to be a balanced solution, so once more this will be the way to proceed for me...

Thanks guys for your instant support!

The Alternator will only produce "X" amount of amps, the size of battery wont matter as the only effect is that the bigger battery will take longer to charge fully. As mentioned you are in a nice warm place so the battery wont be getting punished by the cold temperatures so you wont need or see the benefit from the bigger one.

My 2003 1.9D is still on its original Volvo battery (600Ah). It was showing signs of weakness this time last year but it managed to last through the year. With the recent drop in temperature I can hear it beginning to struggle with cold morning starts but I haven't been driving it much of late so it may be low on charge.

Out of curiosity I just rang the main dealer for a price...€127.92 all in...not bad for a 10 year battery
