Default Stereo AUX input hack - having problems

Hello,

I have a 2000 s70 with a sc816 (same as sc805) cassette/cd/radio.

I'm elbow deep in stereo parts. I attempted one version of the stereo aux input hack (keeping the tape player and soldering into its circuit board), but upon finishing, the tape player would no longer load tapes (just springs them right back out), so the input does not work.

I'd like to try to salvage this operation by doing the hack where you remove the tape player alltogether, but the photos in the "how to" thread are not loading. (see here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=106676)

Could anybody repost the photos of which pins to tie into? I'm dying here - spent all day working on the car and all I accomplished was breaking my previously-functional tape player.

Thanks so much.

I have since removed the soldered-on wires and put everything back to original, and put the stereo back in the car. The tape player is definitely broken now but the CD and radio work at least. Any ideas on how to either fix my tape player (so I can use my cassette adapter) or complete the AUX hack would be truly appreciated. I have a very long road trip coming up. When I put a tape in now, no motors run, it does not "load", but the screen displays "TAPE".

Look here at my Hack....the pics. have since gone as elswhere but i am searching for them on my computer to upload again!

Here you go......

You can go one step better and connect an A2DP Bluetooth Adapter to the jacks and then use your smartphone to play the music from even the kids in the back can then use it. No wires anywhere!

Have a look here.....for an idea.

Brilliant hack - thanks for the reply. The last piece of the puzzle for me is which pins to jumper in order to fool the stereo into thinking there is a loaded tape player in it (there was mention of this in bobbych's write-up but the photos are gone). In my first hack attempt I somehow broke my tape player, so if I just hook up my AUX to those pins I doubt I'll be able to play music because the stereo will not think there is a tape in the player, and will not "listen" to the inputs.... right?

Edit: There is some conflicting info about whether you can "fool" the stereo and completely remove the tape player with the sc805. If anybody can confirm either way, that would be great. If I need a working tape player to do this hack, I guess my first step is a trip to the junkyard to try and replace my tape player module (they'll think I'm crazy buying a used tape player).

The SC-805 is the Alpine specification model.

You cannot remove the tape player as all the parts are connected or intermingled to one another eg: the power and signals go through one onto another, so the whole unit will not work correctly if you remove it. Same if you remove the CD unit.

If you do the Hack via the tape terminals the iPod will sound like a wasp in a bottle but doing it as the pictures above it will sound like CD quality.

Do and use exactly as above and it will work correctly , deviate, then it`s up to you so don`t complain.

I spent hours perfecting it for the 805 only and it works superbly.
