Default 850 MPGs

Hello,

I'm seriously considering buying an early automatic 850 for my 100mile round trip to work each day and fuel economy might be a point of contention. I've checked all the car review sites (Parkers etc.) and thy quote around 30MPG for the 2.0 and 2.5, and the T5 so my question is - is this correct? What do you guys get from your 850s and what could I expect MPG wise for a 150kmile car (or does it not vary with time)?

And any buying advice for an automatic 850 for about £3k would be much apreciated (but I'll ask a few questions later I'm sure).

Cheers

Rhod

approx 22mpg around town and 30mpg on the motorway

when looking at manufacturer mpg figures always look at the lowest one quoted as that will normally be the closest figure you will get in normal driving

Not that good news but it's not hurrendous. Does the T5 really have the same MPG as the NA ones.

For your information the commute in my Audi TT gives me exaclty the Parkers quoted figure of 31.7MPG for my journeys (should really check with manufacturers figures though I expect).

Cheers

In the last 16,000 miles I have a cummulative average consumption of 22.29 mpg. Best was 27.47, worst was 17.71 averaged over a tank full of fuel.

Regards

Rhod,

In my 96 T5, with Optimax (better figures that way) I'm getting about 27 mpg.
If I drive like my Gran, I can get 31 mpg.

If I run normal unleaded, I get more like 25 mpg.

In a 2.5l 10v, I get just over 30mpg on the motorway, and mid twenties round town...but my right foot is very heavy...seeing as I have TRACS I might as well use it...lol

850 T5 manual 29 mpg min 32 max in the couuple of months I've had it doing mixed driving.

Remember smaller engines arent always most economical. My dad bought a 1.6 audi 80 and never bettered 28 mpg. If he'd bought the 2litre it would have been better due to a higher ratio box.

Cheers guys. I'll probably end up with a 2.5 or a 2.0 something.

Is there a vast difference in performance between a 2.5 and a 2.0 auto?

What about an LPG conversion? Is it easy to get done somewhere? Is it worth it on a £2000 car? (F.Y.I. I'm doing about 30k miles a year at my current rate an it's unlikely to change)
