RE: Soon to buy 855 T5 - auto or manual?
think about when its time to sell up, volvo's don't hold there values anyway, a manual will be worthless you'll have to pay someone to take it away and the trade won't even touch them but an auto is at least half-way sellable really appeals to the oldies who lets face it are the majority of owners ;)

BLIMEY!!
;)- Is that smiley showing your tongue in your cheek or are you talking out of your arse? 'get an auto the novelty will soon were off if you do get a manual.' 'a manual will be worthless you'll have to pay someone to take it away' 'appeals to the oldies who lets face it are the majority of owners' I have a manual 855R and I can assure you the novelty will never wear off, I'm not old and I'm not into puerile bickering BUT I have read enough. |

u must be in the minority, i am right though, no matter how much the truth hurts. volvo's depreciate very quickly especially manuals and most r old people cars (where do u think that people got the stereo typical view that old people drive volvos???!!!)
btw u have an r which hold there value way better than say a normal t5 anyway manual or auto. also there no need to be rood i was not so why r u i think u better sell the volvo and get a bmw it will suit your ignorance better i thinks!! |

RE: Soon to buy 855 T5 - auto or manual?
Gentlemen please!
Just to add my thoughts, in a reasonable and intelligent way: 850/70's are not old mans cars. The image has come from the old 240's and 340's which had core values (eg. reliability, space, safety etc..) which didn't generally appeal to a young market. 850/70's have similar attributes, but also have a degree of image, performance and handling. As far as all my research of the market goes, looking at many ads and using the parkers (and other) guides I see no real big difference between Autos and Manuals in price. There are certainly many willing buyers who want a manual over an auto. I am open to being convinced otherwise if shown actual figures. If my car was so old and kn@ckered that I had to pay someone to take it away, then I don't rekon it would sell any better being an auto. In fact in my experience a very old banger which is an auto will sell less easily than a manual. At that level, the complexity of an auto is a considerable turn off for many buyers. Lets keep it intelligent and reasoned......

>i am right though, no matter how
>much the truth hurts. volvo's depreciate very quickly Compared with? Are you honestly saying, that like for like, Volvos of the 850/70 series, depreciate more quickly than say - a Mondeo, Vectra or 406 of the same era? >especially manuals For newer cars, autos add a little to the value - for older ones, people probably shy away - largely for historical reasons. >and most r old people cars (where do u >think that people got the stereo typical view that old people >drive volvos???!!!) Historically there's probably some basis - as there are for other marques - eg Rover, Jaguar. The 850 series did represent something of an epiphany for Volvo in terms of their model / marque desirability. No doubt their forays into BTCC helped, somewhat. >also there no need to be rood i was not so why r u i think u >better sell the volvo and get a bmw it will suit your >ignorance better i thinks!! You call him "rood", yet call label him with "ignorance"??? Do you text a lot? Just curious... Lei Chan |

RE: Soon to buy 855 T5 - auto or manual?
I have an ex-police T5 with a manual box, and I've been delighted with it. I never considered an auto simply because I ENJOY driving a manual too much!
I can put in a good word for the ex-police car centre in Dudley, by the way - at least, I'd go back there if I needed another one :-) Alastair |

If this "having one of your bad weeks" and talking about chocolate is refering to what I think it is, then this really is purile school boy humour. I grew out of this when I was about 15.

RE: Soon to buy 855 T5 - auto or manual?
Are police T5's 'chipped' giving them an advantage over stock cars? Are there any other additions other than bigger brakes and a super accurate speedo?
