Where can I get cheap oil?
My local tyre place that did Mobil 1 0-40 oil changes has been bought by Kwik Fit. They refuse to fit my own supplied Volvo oil filter whilst doing an oil change.
How important is it to fit a Volvo oil filter with its check valve? Anyone know where I can get cheap Mobil 1 from? I've searched the net and you can buy anything cheaper except, it seems, oil. I've heard oil in France is cheaper- might do an 'oil run' if it's worth it. Fill up the back of the R with oil instead of booze!! Anyone know? |

RE: Where can I get cheap oil?
The Mobil 1 in France is 5W-50. I asked Mobil why some time ago and they said that it was because of the warmer climate. I use it in my T5. It is cheaper in the large Hypermarkets in France, especially if there is a 'sale' on.
The Volvo oil filter will filter out smaller particles than other cheaper makes. I don't know if the non-return valve thing applies, as the filter hangs down on the 850/70 models.

RE: Where can I get cheap oil?
I have used Kwik Fit on a couple of occaisons for an oil change and had no problems with supplying my own filter. They even knocked off a few quid from the price as they weren't supplying a cheapo filter.
Mind you I kept a very close eye on them doing the work. Close enough that I got a fair amount of oil down my shirt on one occaison when it spat out suddenly. They were a bit worried (and laughing) at the mess I was in till I pointed out that all their posters said stay in the customer area - I was under the car because I wanted to be - and if I got covered in oil then it was my problem...... RE: Where can I get cheap oil?
I get my Mobil 1 from a place called Costco. it's a membership only place but easy to become a member (for £30). 4L is about £25 (which is loads cheaper than the dealers I normally get it from). I use the Costco in Reading myself but there are a few dotted about the county.

One thing to remeber.... Halfords oil is the same oil as branded oil!
The only oil that you can't get as non-branded is Magnatech... Ian |

Hi Rod,
I am in Reading as well, let me know when you are next going (I'm not a member!). Would it be worthwhile for a 940 Turbo - I 've had all matter of opinion, now local independendent says it is up to me. Where do you get yours serviced? Tony |

RE: Where can I get cheap oil?
I also use the Reading Costco - but don't currently use Mobil-1. I am using Silkolene Pro-S as thats what my mechanic gets from his normal supplier.
I also get it at cost - which is very nice. I can be persuaded to go to Costco as my brother lives nearby - so if anyone wants to meet for an oil run - I am more than happy to cooperate.... Sean |

RE: Where can I get cheap oil?
Hi,
I also use Costco for my oil, but not mobil 1. I use Chevron Supreme fully synthetic 5W-40, and change oil and filter every 5k miles. And the price of this oil..... £9.99 + VAT for 4 liters!!! All the best, Tony D. |
