Default 960 What possible

Hi All.

I currently have a 960 - standard apart from a high flow filter.

Was thinking about the possibilities of making it faster and looking better. Something to noodel about with while I'm waiting to get my GT4 back on the road.

Does anyone know of anything that's available or anything that has been done to 960's.

Thinking about removing the cat.
Bigger wheels
Tints
Angel Eye headlamps
Chips etc.

????????????
Cheers....

The first question is what model 960 do you have?

Body and suspension mods.
'91-'94 MY saloons are resricted in their suspension mods due to the IRS rear, but there is a genuine Volvo bodykit available for them and rear spoilers. They also use the older 25mm offset wheels but there are some nice styles available like Galaxy, Gemini, Auriga or Polaris.
'91-'94 estates share there suspension with the 740/940 so lowering springs and uprated shocks are easily available.
'95> MY cars are restricted to the factory lowering kit only (both saloons and estates share the same set-up). This is very expensive!! There are no bodykits available, but the estates have a rear spoiler as standard and the saloons can use the 940's rear spoiler. They use the 43mm offset wheels that are common to the 850, S/V/C70 etc so the options are endless.

Enginewise the isn't much that can be done apart from a freeflow airfilter and exhaust. Some people have experimented with advancing the inlet cam by about 3* and have reported good gains, but apart from that not much else has been attempted.

Heres a pic of my 960 which bodywise has had a rear spoiler, a painted grille and a set of Andromeda 7x16" wheels from a '98 S/V90 fitted.

Of course it's possible...but is it worth the hassle? Probably not, I'd say, for the minimal gains you'll see.

Chipping an NA engine is only worth the expense in a few specific cases (usually factory software de-tuned cars...i.e. 140 vs 180bhp 2.4 S60/V70s).

The 960 is a tricky car when it comes to modification. You either do virtually nothing, or you go crazy...yes, that is a truck turbo (and a large one at that)...

See here:
http://turbobricks.com/feature.php?content=winter_06

Stuff like tints, rims, etc...all available over the counter, and not really specific to the car (beyond the fitment info that Rupert gave). If you want these things, go get them I've seen the angel eyes for sale, but I think they'll probably look pants on the squared-off headlights. Might be worth a try though.

cheers

Default Bodykit suggestions

Another possibility is to fit an 850 boot spoiler - it fits pretty much straight on. I have one waiting to be resprayed which I'll probably get around to fitting in the spring. The boot width is almost the same (900 is maybe 5mm wider) , but I think you'll need to use slightly longer bolts to secure it to the boot lid.

Side and rear panels will be pretty much the same pre/post facelift so you should be able to use 900 side skirts. 850 bumpers fit a 900 with some mods - the rear will be ok with your facelift model, not sure about the front. Take a look at www.volvo940turbo.dk for inspiration - its in Swedish but the pictures tell the story very well

Oh, btw - you were joking about the matt black paint weren't you?!!! (noooooooooooooooooooo!)
