Default Aux in and USB for audio?

Having had the XC90 for 4 months I finally got around to buying a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable, presuming the aux-in socket - clearly a Volvo fitted item under the cup holder lid - would allow me to play music from my phone etc.

Plugged it in and pressed play on my phone, but then discovered there's no Aux button to select this as an audio input. What am I missing here?!

Also discovered a usb socket inside the glove box, which I'm guessing is for playing music off a USB stick? Little bit retro these days!

You don't say what car you have.

My car is a 2011 Exec.

in mine, the USB connector can be used with an iPod/MP3 player/memory stick and is selected from the "SOUND" button/rotary control "Ipod"

Likewise, the "Aux In" can be selected in a similar way

The Drivers manual for your car is available to download from https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support/car/xc90/10w20

Cheers

Dave

Nice one, thanks - found it. The car didn't come with a manual, a download is useful but I must get hold of a paper copy too!

If you have an IOS phone you will get better sound quality using the USB I-Pod interface (if fitted to your car) as that is a digital connection.

You can also get Bluetooth to 3.5mm adaptors so you can stream from your phone, such as this badger...

Thanks, that's useful - I guess the usb connection is for power so I could plug into the central 12v socket on the dash?
