Default Distributor Clamp Issue

Went to mount the distributor clamp in the 121 and it does not go all the way down. The part number is the same as the clamp in the 122. Both have B18 engines.

What am I missing here? Does the gear look right in the block? Do I need to modify the clamp, order a new clamp or some sort of a spacer?

Thank you for your input.

CA (your name could be here!);

It looks like the Dist Drive Gear is too high, this suggests it is not fully engaged with the Oil Pump drive below...so rotate Crank manually and slowly in the normal direction of rotation while applying slight downward force on the DDG until it drops in, then continue rotating Crank to TDC No.1 and see what alignment is compared to the factory nominal as pictured here:

...if you're lucky, it does...proceed to Static Timing, but if this alignment condition does not exist, pull out DDG rotate to achieve this nominal alignment, repeat procedure as necessary until it is as shown at TDC No.1.

Then Static Time.

...once DDG drops into Oil Pump Drive fully, I expect Dist Clamp will seat properly and Dist drive will engage DDG as it should...

Good Hunting!

Note the correct position of the offset slot in the drive gear. When inserting it will twist as the gears engage so you will have to position it a few degrees around before you push it down. Follow Ron's instructions re TDC before inserting the gear.

The DDG indeed dropped down and the distributor clamp now fits. I did not check to make sure it is in the proper position though. I will do that tonight.

Thank you Ron and Derek for your advice.
