Manifold Pressure Sensor Diaphragm Spares
In an idle moment I decided to take my bust MPS apart to look at how a repair might be implemented. (see PBANDERS article and save yourself the effort)
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE A WORKING ONE APART! Its self evident that you cant glue, solder or weld the single surface diapragm as it is literally paper thin. So after much searching as many will know very little can be found on the internet that looks much like this, and certainly not a direct replacement. Options.. The nice people at Bosch will fix this for a price (best option) as you know this will be right, tested properly and last your time out! But I am persistant and am looking for someone that deals in these things to make some. Having found someone that certainly seems to know his stuff, I may be in a position to source these. Are there any takers to give the guy a decent order for his efforts and to make the unit price attractive to us. I doubt just replacing this is the whole story and it may not work or require a deal of resetting. But I like the idea of cheating device death. Let me know! Thanks Simon |

The fuelcorp sells all sorts of reconditioned MAP sensors for the Djet. They only want $129,45 (+&50 core change)for the 054 for the '73ES if I understand correctly as they say "starting" at... The other MAP's cost more, so could be otherwise?
You might find this site interesting regarding MAP's. And here's a list with the MAP Bosch part# for the Volvo types which I copied from the 1800list years ago. Most of them are interchangable, I'm driving already for years with a 035 in my ES which should be a 054 originally without any problems. 0 280 100 010 1970 1800E (4 speed) 0 280 100 015 1971 1800E 0 280 100 035 All injected 1972 Volvo 140 models (with B20F engine) All 1972, 1973, and 1974 Volvo 164 models (with B30F engine) All 1972 Volvo 1800E and 1800ES models (B20F engine 4 Speed and Auto) (Compression lowered to 8.5 to 1) 0 280 100 053 1973 and 1974 164 is (with automatic transmission) 0 280 100 054 1973 140 series and 1800ES (B20F 4 Speed and Auto) 0 280 100 059 1975 164 is (with automatic transmission) 0 280 100 066 1975 164 is (manual trans) -- ©Dave Shannon

All good info, but keep in mind that not all 1800ES's (or post '72 cars for that matter) had the B20F, but continued with the higher compression E head, so the 0 280 100 015 is applicable to more than the '71 1800E. My '73 ES uses it for instance. I've two spares collected at this stage for the inevitable day...

MAP unit
The price of the diaphragm is not quantity related, they are very expensive.
I have MAP reconditioned units in stock (exchange). Do remember that when the cars were new, we had 5 star petrol, later, 4 star. Now we only have crap 2 star! The reconditioned units I have are set-up/adjusted for 2 star. Tony Barrett The Old Volvo Man 0208 525 7283 |

Hi
Thanks for the responses, and I am pretty interested in a 2 star MAP I have to say. So... and I know I am possibly feeding my own curiosity but I have found a British chap who can make the diaphragms. Dont know if this is intersting to you or not. Happy to discuss if this would make a better priced point of sourcing... Best wishes Simon |
