Default Codes

Hi I have a 2000 C70 Coupe in need of some interior parts, trim code is 1744, however when compared to my 2003 Convertible C70 with trim code 1970 they look the same. Any suggestions? Thanks

I'm not sure of the exact answer, but the code denotes the type of upholstery as well as the colour. My 2003 has the bog standard black interior - code 1970. However, the soft leather interior which is a similar colour is code 1770. I'm not familiar with the coupe, but has yours perhaps got the Alcantara panels? Which, presumably would be a different code.

The trim code (for other viewers) is position 17 on the VIN plate -

The four digits represent

1. Vehicle code/model
3 - 850

2. Upholstery material:
2 – tricot & plush
3 – tricot
5 – plush (with vinyl sides)
6 – velour
7 – plush & leather
8 – leather & suede (alcantara)
9 – leather

3. Trim colour:
3 – blue
4 – red
5 – beige
6 – light beige
7 – grey & dark grey
8 – light gray

4. Special edition code:
0 - standard
1 - T-5R
5 - 850R

T-5Rs are always 3871 for example.

NB I don't have the missing numbers/info sorry, this is it

Thanks for the info. From your post Rolling Thunder, it would seem that my Coupe has possibly had an interior transplant at some point because there is no sign of any red inside at all, in fact I would say that the interior is probably a 1970 (just like my convertible) but with the walnut panels instead of the aluminium! Now to try and source the parts!

Thats quite possible. Interior swaps are straight forward in these, I swapped out the standard aluminium trim in one of my V70Rs and installed the marmite 'light birch' trim instead - I absolutely adored that interior, but many hated it just as strongly

Good luck!

Wow, that's certainly striking. I can see why you say it is Marmite!

Having checked on Google the following info explains your interior history.

The C70 code is made up of two elements: the first two digits denote the type of upholstery, the second two the colour. Therefore the 1970 code is bog standard leather on the wearing surfaces and vinyl on others, including the seat backs etc. The colour being off black. 1770 code is off black, but full leather including the seat backs and inserts in the door panels.

Colour code 44 is Light Grey. Therefore code 1944 is bog standard Grey. Code 1744 is full leather Light Grey.

Your car obviously started life with a full leather light grey interior and has subsequently been changed to the bog standard off black. The dash inlays could be chosen separately and does not affect the interior code, likewise Coupe and Convertible codes are the same.

OK, thanks for the clarification ITSv40. Do you happen to know if any of the dash panels are common between the 1970 and 1744 interiors? My coupe needs a new upper dash (the bit with the radio in it that also runs under the top trim panel), te drivers knee pad, the centre speaker mount and tunnel console if I am ever to get it back on the road. When I took the original (fitted replacement?) dash out to replace the heating hose coupling on the firewall, I found out it had been fitted with silicone sealant in and it completely fell apart!

The dash panels are standard. The only difference will be whether a beige or black etc interior is fitted. No difference between 1970 and 1770 The dash tops are different depending on whether it is GT spec with the dash top centre speaker.

Thanks for all the info. Do you have any suggestions where I could possibly get the dash parts? Each time I try and get some the vehicle being broken seems to have been sold in its entirety! All suggestions welcome!
