Default Dimmed central display

I had a problem where the central display console was automatically dimmed when the headlamp was turned on under shadow circumstances. However, it didn't revert back to the normal bright condition. So i had to drive over an hour under the dimmed central display and the sun is shinning super bright today.

This is the second time i faced this situation. Does anyone had this and do you know if there's a button to press to revert back to the original condition?

Thanks....

Have you knocked the thumb wheel on the right hand side of the wheel near the boot release button?

Oh? Is that what's that for? I noticed that dial but haven't found out what's that for. Let me try tomorrow.

Thanks....

Had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago - no reason I could see: had not knocked/touched the dimmer, touched any settings, ...

It sorted itself out when I stopped the car, locked it, grabbed a drink at the service station and restarted the car. has not happened since and had never happened before. I just put it down to a s/w glitch

Yeah.. it only reset after I stop and restarted my car. I will try the dimmer switch next to the boot button as suggested. Hope that will work otherwise it's a very bad s/w glitch. Too dim to drive under the sun hence not safe.

I understand that it’s annoying and shouldn’t happen, but why do you feel that it’s unsafe? Half the time I drive with the screen shut down and I’ve never considered it a safety hazard.

Just a thought, but have you got something on the dash that is shading the light sensor?

I don't think the thumb wheel affects the intensity when the headlights are off.

Maybe I'm new at this and still feel excited to look at the big screen But on certain occasion I am using Waze for directions and on a dimmed screen it's really hard to see the direction ahead.

Do you know where is the light sensor on the dash? Could it be on the blinking red light area?

Thanks...

Yes it does. The car simply decides when it is dark and dims the dash intensity accordingly. The thumbwheel also then comes into play. Lights in auto will then also puts lights on at the same time.

However I am sure if you manually switch lights on or off then this does not override the auto function of the dash intensity.

I'm not sure what Waze is or does, so if it is essential for you, I can see it being a problem if it isn't repeated in the main instrument panel like the Sensus navigation. I've yet to have any problem with the standard navigation. Well not after the April 2017 system update that is.

Not sure about where Volvo put the light sensor but it is usually, on other cars, exactly where that blinking red security light is. Just had a look, and the security light is around the outside of that unit, so it would not surprise me if the centre and front was indeed the light sensor. Throw a thick cloth over it to test it. Let us know if it is and whether maybe its faulty. Its more likely to be the sensor than a software glitch at this stage of development in my opinion. But who knows? Until it is sorted, nothing is certain.
