I use a Memoscan U581 which reads and clears engine management codes, will not read ABS faults etc but these clear themselves when the fault is corrected.
The U581 has been used on V70R awd, V40 Phase2, Ford Fiesta & a Clio so has paid for itself (£50) and is supposedly Can Bus friendly so futureproof , for a couple of years at least.

BSR do a Volvo specific reader that reads everything but the now discontinued one is rare as hens teeth and the new one is expensive.

Memoscan do cheaper scan/reset tools with more limited functions, just ak jeeves or google.

Hi Paul I use the OBDKey unit on my V70 phase 1, mine is a W plate but is the same ME7 engine system as yours, the OBD Key works fine for fault code resets - Mike
