Default A Little Cosmetic Addition

During yesterdays oil and filter change, whilst the oil was draining I decided to finally do something that I'd be wanting to do for ages.

A blue pinstripe for

The bottom edge of the front splitter.

Last day off today, so I washed the car (shock) as it was a bit dirty.

Just the one shot of the wash

Blue was then all dried off, tyres and windows done.

The pinstripe is quite subtle in my opinion and not overly visible. Got some closer pics

Quite happy with it. Hopefully it stays on/stuck for a good while.

That'll be it for a little while. Back to work tomorrow for 8 days straight and don't have any mods coming up and have just serviced it, so, yeah.

I like the stripe. It blends in nicely!

Lovely photos. Amazing scenery...

Thanks for sharing.

Default Just for my records

Just a little post for my records as I neglected to post them within previous posts.

Oil level after the recent oil change - 5.6 litres

Bang on the limit as it was with 5.7 litres. Might try 5.5 litres next time.

Miles covered when changed - 63,943 miles

All reset and showing 12 months/18,000 miles.

I think I'll use that for oil change timescales. Three 6's are 18, so that'll be 3 changes before the service light comes on again and it'll help remind me when I check how many miles have depleted.

It seems that you're not aware Pete, but that oil level graphic in the DIM, despite it's appearance of being a calibrated gauge, is just a dumb graphic. It will show the exact same image - one bar from full - when the oil level is anywhere between the minimum and maximum values, and only changes if the engine requires oil or is overfilled.

Oil level information sent to the DIM is dumbed down and averaged over consecutive journeys. The only way to determine an accurate oil level in real time is through diagnostic software connected to the engine ECU, which reads from the sump level sensor directly.

I believe the CarScannerPro app for Android has that facility, you just need a cheap ELM VCI bluetooth dongle to connect to the car. I use the Torque Pro app for regular oil level checks, but I had to write a custom PID to access it.

If you're really bored, there was a long thread on this subject on another forum when the VEA engines were first introduced. AFAIK the OP's attempts to get a mechanical dipstick into production came to nought.

Hello mate.

Good to know. I'll make sure I don't lower the amount too much then. Such a shame though. You would've thought it would be accurate considering there's no dipstick.

I'll see if I can get a proper reading with VIDA at some point.

Thanks for the link and the info.
