Spare wheel well
Why won't it fit in? It's a 165 x 15. Was that not the standard size? If I really force it in the boot hinge get's stuck on the side wall. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Yes. Can't get the wheel into the well. Seems to be too big (the wheel) or too small (The well)

Mine is a 164 and the boot hinge hits on the tyre as I close it and needs a good hefty push down to make the catch engage, but it does then close. I thought previous owner had possibly damaged the wing or boot at sometime and it had not been well repaired, or that the hinge needed adjusting so the lid in the closed position was a bit higher on that side.
It looks like the hinge is adjustable but I was worried that raising it would allow water past the seal so left it, as it can be shut. Does yours not shut at all with the spare in place? |

Tyre sizes do vary by make for nominally the same size. Is that a Camac? Pattern looks familiar. I think they are made in Portugal. Not the best tyre in the World.................

The first thing on old Volvos to rust away is the spare wheel well,so if that has been changed the may have used a low quality one to replace it and that thats the couse of your problem.
Or it as simple as to remove your carpet? orginal the rubber matt ended at the edge of the boot and the wheel well never had any carpet in it. Erik in sweden |

It must be different as on mine the hinge mechanism comes straight down onto the centre of the tyre tread therefore no sideways strain involved. There is nothing in the bottom of the wheel well.
The tyre is original pirelli 175 radial. Sorry don't think I can be of more help to you but interested to hear any further info. |
