Hi all

I am a new member to the forum, who has just aquired a 1967 142S. This is my first Volvo, have always been an MG fan and still have a 1967 MGB roadster. Mechanically they are very similar, 1800cc, twin SU's, four speed gearbox with overdrive so should have no problems there. Car looks to be very sound, with no obvious signs of rust, as any MG owner will tell you, we know all about rust!!! Lets hope good old Swedish steel last longer.

Not had much chance to drive her yet as snow arrived the week after I collected her, but very pleased so far.

Will put some photo's on when I have worked out how to do it!
From what I gather from comments on the forum, there do not seem to be many 142's around, any ideas on how many?

Regards to all

John

Hi and welcome to these forums. It does seem 142s are rare nowadays, although there are not may 140s of any model on the roads now.

I have a '68 142S which I liberated a couple of years back, when its owner wanted his garage back after having this non-runner stored in there for over 20 years. Obviously all rubber items perished, but after lots of checks and oil application, it ran again last summer. It drives but needs some welding round the rear arches before MoT, but I have ditched its seats as my back has come to like my daily-driver 240 seats. Therefore not original (and not as pretty as yours - yet....).

Years ago I swore not to run another two-door car, after my first 142, but that was when I had a dependant family. I wondered if yours was once mine, but that was yellow, so there are at least three in the UK....

Thanks for reply Paul

I have a green log book, issued 1971, to the second owner which has the colour as grey. In a letter from him to the third owner he states that the first owner was the secrtary of the VOC.

Mine is in really nice condition with I presume the original interior.

Has an overdrive gearbox fitted which I don't think was originally fitted??

Will put some more photo's on now I have worked out how to do it.

Regards

John

Hi, welcome!

142s are great and pretty rare in the UK. Look forward to the photos!

What plans do you have for the car?

John

Thanks John

The 142 is in really nice condition and needs very little doing to her, the previous owner, for nearly 20 years, has already done most of the work.

I have known the car for most of that time and always wanted to buy it! only recently decided to sell when he realised that he had only done 500 miles in 3 years!

I am a member of two local car clubs and do lots of charity shows during the year, in and around the West Midlands, but like to drive and enjoy my cars as well, hope to get a lot more use out of Volvo than MG ( I am getting too old for the MG these days).

Pictures now on.

Hope to meet you some time.

Regards

John

Looking at the snaps your 142 is in absolutely peachy condition; I've seldom seen an interior of that age in as good a condition as yours, cracking car, well done on acquiring it.
