Thanks for that, previous services were done at Volvo I think.
I got the cambelt replaced at 108k which is the time I was told or found online. My car is the 2wd D4 Im not sure cleaning it will sort it as it's struggling to close unless somthing is trapping it from fully closing the valve. I'm considering a remap with an EGR delete but don't know if that will cause issues with the DPF. My usual diesel specialist for faults found it to be the EGR and put a piece of metal to block it and it has transformed the way the car drives. It does cause a fault light but the car drives like new Quote:

Lumps of soot definitely can jam the EGR valve, preventing it from closing properly... that's what happened to mine! But that YT vidclip should help you to clean it and restore it's function, if DIY is your thing.

I think it might be a summer job for me or will see if my retired neighbour fancies doing it as he loves working on cars. I dont mind getting my hands dirty but struggle to find the time. This video is as detailed as it can get. |

I sold the car about six months after the remap but had no problems with the dpf during that time. My wife’s Volvo s40 diesel was remapped 3 years ago and that has had no problems. As long vehicle is remapped by someone with a good reputation you should be ok. |

My orange Emissions warning light has come on, it had the full Volvo fix in 2017 but unfortunately has come on again, it's a 2015 D4 with 86K on the clock and full Volvo service history. Its booked into the dealer for a check just hope I don't get hit with a large repair bill...

Oil consumption - EGR relation
Dear Members,
I have bought a VOLVO from year 2015 with D4204T5 (D4 Diesel) engine 3 weeks ago. The car run 192000 km. I drove the first 1000 km without any problem. I went to a Volvo dealer for a re-call (I was told that a vent pipe must be installed in the cooling system). After 200-300 km from re-call the message appeared on the dash board: add 0,5 half litre of oil, so I did. After another 200 km the same message appeared, so I did again, but started to monitor the oil level on the dash board. Every morning and evening when I sat into the car checked, and it always showed the normal amount (only the stripe under max indication was missing). After 200-250 km, yesterday the "add 0,5 half litre of oil" message appeared again. When I wanted to make the measurement, the dash board wrote "not available" I went immediately to the Volvo dealer and I was told that they had to calibrate the oil measure on the dashboard with the computer and had to add 1 litre of oil. Now I shall wait, if error message pop up again or not. TBH, I am a bit concerned, because within 2 weeks and 500 km almost 2 litre of oil had to be added. I see no oil leak on the floor. No black/blue exhaust gas coming, no power loss, nothing. Can the oil consumption be in relation with the this very common EGR issues? Please, help me. Can anyone had similar problem? Thank you! |

1. You could have an oil leak and not know as the undertray is designed to absorb for environmental reasons. The dealer should have checked for leaks. Mine had a leak which cost +£1000 to fix and may not actually have fixed it. 2. Volvo told me 250ml to 500ml oil use over a week is normal. Total rubbish in my opinion. 3. Oil level guage is not fit for purpose. Its basically a switch and has 4 settings oil critical, oil low, max, and overfilled. if you have low warning and then put a small amount in you can get it to read max. 4. Buy an ELM327A from amazon and use carscanner app (android play store). This will give you a live reading in mm. I use this and check the cluster guage together. 5. I suspect Volvo know there are issues but won't admit and think the 2 possibly are related. Mine started losing oil in the build up to EGR failure. Could be seperate issues.

XC60 EGR cooler
I had the same issue with my XC60. A new EGR was fitted under warranty on a recall. Now the vehicle has done 119,500 miles and the same issue's are re-occuring. I have had a new EGR and new cooler and was told to sell the car as it will go again.Hope this helps
