The engine should also start when in "N"

If not then your PNP switch os the culprit.

Ok.

Then I'm afraid your PNP switch is broken.

A new one from Volvo is usually around £100.

There is a cheeper one made by a company called Scantech, but apparently these are not very good quality and don't last very long.

The job can be done by anyone with a good mechanical knowledge and no specific tools are required, but it is a little awkward, as the car needs to be raised and the exhaust removed. (The switch is located on the outside of the gearbox housing, behind the exhaust.)

Alternatively, a mechanic would charge you about an hour and a half's labour to do the job.

Hope you get it sorted.

Steve

ok, certainly the pnp broken or maybe with some intermittent contact, but can not 'be that it crashed the system and maybe you just restore the error?

without doing anything now is out of the way W! gear selector in S and goes to the max rpm and shifting gears, I put all the gears change in E and shoot very well if I put in W remains in slow acceleration. I repeated several times. Apparently everything works, but still blinking buttons on the console and the yellow arrow.
Bhoo? I think we should reset the system. how?

Hi,

I had the exact same symptoms on mine.

It would sometimes work fine, but usually not, especially from cold.

I'm afraid it still seems that the switch is defective.

The easy way to reset the system is to disconnect the battery over night, just make sure you have the code for the radio and that the fob for the central locking/immobiliser is in good working order, as when the battery is reconnected the system usually arms itself.

No, they need around 6 hours to completely reset.

I tried it on mine for 4 hours and that wasn't enough.
