Default 850 TDI MAF/vacuum lines

On the way to my mates house last night my TDI decided to go into limp mode (no dash lights or anything though).

Ive had this happen before and I am sure that it is MAF related as the previous owner said that he had to replace the MAF.

The replacement has obviously come from a breakers as it has "850 TDI" written on it with tippex !

So last night the usual, disconnect the maf, reconnect and make sure all connectors where tight resolved the issue.

However, I have now began wondering, is it the MAF that is the issue, or stuff in the surrounding area. There are a LOT of vaccuum hoses in that area that are cracked and dont look too well, some lead down towards the turbocharger, others are connected to what looks like a 1 way valve on top of the MAF housing.

Does anybody have a diagram for the TDI (D5252T) of the vacuum hoses ? Could a vacuum leak cause the limp mode ???

Also If i am to replace the MAF sensor, is it false economy to get a second hand breakers unit, as I am not planning on getting rid of the car anytime soon (hopefully) so I guess i would be quite willing to spend the £200 on a new unit.

FYI, this unit is the old type 'MECHANICAL' type, reffered to as a VAF (vane air flow) meter.

Could you, please, upload it somewhere else, www.imgur.com for example? I'm unable to open the file, it only give me a one-pixel image with nothing :/
