Firstly you have to lock the camshafts at the gearbox end with the volvo special tool to get the camshafts in the correct basic timing position .

This gives a good basic overview. I am doing the same at the moment and Clan is right that you cant do it without locking the rear of the cams Also these ones from some kind members today. http://howardsvolvos.webs.com/engine.htm http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_...ming_belt.html

hi I probably didn't explain myself very well according to my brother he said he couldn't get the rocker cover off without undoing the vvt pulley when he did the cam spun....what he needs to know is the position of the vvt cam in relation to the inlet cam. We've looked on the web for hours and cant find any pics of the cams in relationship with each other ....if we cant find the info not sure what to do for the best
thanks |

The cams have slots on the ends of them. (transmission side)
If you look closely you will see that the inlet slot is above the line / seem in the head when it is on it's mark. The exhaust cam slot needs to be below the seem in the head to be on it's mark. It,s subtle but obvious when you look closely. This post shows what to look for and what you'll need to do to sort it hopefully. http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s...0-1-9-a-62518/

cam must align, but not the vvt pulley.. that why their design with 1 bolt on center with no marking. hand tighten the vvt than fit the timing belt..
