If you mean the soot filter then I don't think so. Personally I keep tabs on mine using the Car Scanner app just so I can avoid interrupting the burn-off cycles wherever I can (ie if I'm 2 mins from home and it starts one I'll just keep driving for a few extra mins until it completes). When the reading hits 23.4g mine will usually start a regen as long as I'm moving and the car is at operating temp. It then takes around 8 or 9 minutes of driving for it to drop down to around 4g at which point normal service is resumed.

Happens maybe once every 3 or 4 weeks of regular driving.

Does this app cost anything? And do you need a special obd reader? If so which one reader do you use?

The app is free but you have the option to upgrade it to the 'professional' version for around 3 or 4 quid which gives you the customizable dashboard views and some other extra features which I think are well worth the few quid.

You can get cheapo copy ELM327 OBD adapters off Ebay for 5 to 10 quid which will work. The one I got off Ebay 6 months ago recently stopped working so I replaced it with this one from Argos which also works with Car Scanner app...

Thanks for that.

Do you leave it plugged in all the time then?

I assume you also have the app open on your phone or something while you're driving in order to know when a regen is occurring?

There's a simple way to tell if a regen is happening.

Instantaneous mpg will not go to 99.0 on the overrun. Sticks around 98.x .

Also, at idle, your gallons/hour will be around 0.5 instead of 0.2

This is because the ECU is adding fuel to increase exhaust gas temps on the DPF

Not all the time but on most longish runs I mount my phone horizontally on centre console on a magnetic mount just in front of gear stick and have the app open with extra dials showing continuously. I always unplug the OBD dongle when I leave the car though.

I also have a view showing turbo boost and haldex torque and you can do 0-60 tests from rest.
