Default Tyre Wear Update

Based on my evidence to date I should be getting 19,000 out of the fronts and over 50,000 out of the rears.

The local garage will swap them round for a tenner, including balancing the "new" fronts so I think that might be sensible to get that done for the winter. I will then have 6.5mm on the fronts.

You must have a very gentle right foot - I bet your mpg figures are also equally very economically.

Average since new 38.7mpg, but 40.6mpg over the last 6 fill-ups. I do expect that to drop a bit with the recent cold weather though.

Thought as much, your figures are pretty good.
Me - since new over 7,500 miles I have averaged 29.4 with lots of Motorways at an average of about 75 to 80 mph

It's a bit late/early to be making sense of a spreadsheet! However if I am right you are considering putting the tyres with more tread on the front. If so you might want to look at this thread, http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=140888, particularly post #10 by adambsmith. If I've got it round my neck I'll shut up!

I have been following that thread closely and I just cannot agree with the logic of the best tyres on the back. Anyway there are other factors influencing my decision to swap them round.

I must admit my inclination is to agree with you. I guess, as always, one needs to consider all the evidence and then make one's own mind up. Hope it all works out.

Sorry if I'm completely misreading your chart Rman, but if it's plotting tyre tread depth against mileage, it seems to suggest that between about 3000 and 6000 miles, the tread on your front tyres actually increased!!! A very clever trick, and one I'd love to emulate - what is your secret of tyre alchemy??

Someone noticed! I blame my measuring technique :-)

Do you often exaggerate your measurements in this fashion?
