I said it before, but I will say it again - good to see you back - your comments always see the good side of people and lighten up the forum

That may be the case, but as I secured an 18% discount I suggest that shows a) I am not a mug and b) that I don't have more money than sense.

I will leave it to you to decide on what what this would say about an attempt to defend the original comment.

Thats a good discount is 18%. Not sure why about the logic of the comment myself but it did seem to imply that dealers see customers coming and treat them as mugs and cash cows.Seems pretty common place across the industry!

It might be interesting to get individuals to rate dealers with marks out of ten for certain key categories. The three most important for me are:
Dealers/salesmans attitude
Willingness to negotiate
Price/Value for money

Not necessarily in that order - I am sure there will be others to add.

I wonder if VOC could make a list of all of the dealers in the country and invite scores against an agreed set of criteria. The current polling system couldn't cope (I think).

Although in your previous post you said that you'd got a 12% discount?

I am afraid that I need to correct you - if you look at the post you will see that I said I got more than 12% discount referencing the suggestion that dealers only had a 12% margin ...

My comments would be

Attitude 10/10
negotiation 8/10
VFM - 8/10

The dealer was Ian Hunt at Squire Furneaux in Guildford, and he only gets 8/10 for negotiation as he wouldn't go as far as I wanted - but he did go a long way

VFM relates to the car, still good value, but there are some things that could be better - even a Rolls Royce has things that could be better

Pretty much the same score for City Motors in Bristol, and I think Kastners in Exeter would get close. Abergavenny certainly score a 10 for attitude but couldn't test the other ratings.

I will not rate the other dealers I spoke to as this is an open forum.

Have to disagree about Kastner:

Attitude 8/10
negotiation 3/10
VFM -

I found that they wer uninterested in doing a deal and bought elsewhere.

No problems with their service department however.
