Greatest Hits Radio is also available in many areas on FM. In my part of Bucks they took over from Mix 96. In other places, for instance, they've taken over from Gold or Magic.

You can find the local GHR in your area by asking the Volvo Sensus radio to display all of the FM stations that it can find.

A fuller list is also available here: -

Their bog standard daily shows seem to rotate around a small-ish playlist of "classic" tracks, and even when listeners are invited to select a track on, say, Rossie' Breakfast Show it normally ends up being a track from that small-ish playlist.

Listen to Simon Mayo or Gambo, however, and things get far more interesting.

When I was driving at night and Heart used to be the big name in local radio I noticed that all of the 'local' Heart stations were playing the same centrally produced programme, they would then have 'requests' and the patter would be something like 'Sally in the petrol station has texted in to ask for some Abba, so here for you Sally is Waterloo!' after a while it seemed to me that they just played what was on the playlist and if someone from across the country sent in the right request it got credited to them. Classic FM's request show seems to do much the same, the request show is a rehash of what's on the current playlist. Or it may be that we're being too cynical and people tend to request something they've heard played yesterday and been reminded of.

It certainly seems that management aren't focused on radio skills. Rylan? Rob Beckett? Claudia winkelman? Oti bloody mabuse? There are still local radio presenters that would do a far better job than these celebs, but management want a "name", not a skillset. Ball and vine are dreadful too. Ken Bruce was the only one I'd change stations to listen to. That's me done with BBC. Planet Rock, anyone?
Ps. Autocorrect put oti as otitis. If that's not an illness then it should be...

Shouldn't laugh but - It is an illness my wife suffers from it, it's an infection and inflamation of the ear, quite a reasonable autocorrect really.

Already moved to Smooth Radio because of the “dumbing down” of Radio 2 with rejects from Radio 1.

The trouble is, they're not even the rejects

Someone with a personality would be good. Being deliberately sexist or saying it the way I see it, the daytime women presenters are better than the men

I find bbc2 the home of radio 1 presenters from 10-15 years ago.
As the population ages the they audience shifts.
Zoe Ball, Coxy aren’t my cup of tea but once Nick(him off Caleb gogglebox)whatever he’s called makes a showing I’m off too!

With Ken Bruce's imminent departure, my week day R2 is now finished.

That said Saturday is still a plus with Tony Blackburn and Paul Gambaccini followed by Johnny Walker on Sunday.

Scott Mills has the ability to bore for Britain and as for Rylan and Rob Becket, least said the better.

Once Ken moves to Greatest Hits I'll tune in because he wisely owns the rights to " Pop Master" and that will be going with him methinks.

Kind Regards Victor
