Default Limp mode / power drop off.

My 2003 S60 D5 keeps going into some sort of limp-mode. 6 times yesterday, when pulling away from a junction or on first starting. It starts up again and then drives fine until the next set of lights or junction, then goes into limp mode again and the power is just not there. I read somewhere it could be a faulty O2 sensor. Anyone got any ideas about the cause of repeated power loss like this?

You need to get the car read to see if any fault codes are stored, then you can then do a proper fault find instead of trying to guess whats wrong.

You should also check your fuses behind the panel on driver's side. There's one that feeds the accelerator pedal and if that blows you'll get the symptoms you describe. Can't remember which number it is.

Hi i do not think your 03 D5 has a O2 Sensor
Yes read the codes, it maybe over boosting, or a boost leak ,
if it is over boosting it maybe your vnt turbo needs cleaning.

Default Italian tune-up?

I had similar problem but my 2003 D5 would hit limp mode when going up a long drag on our ring road....I believe it was the turbo vanes were getting sticky with soot as I drive pretty sedately (most of the time) and I cured it by slowly building up the speed on the flat and followed that with an Italian tune-up ie gave it some hammer - hey presto! problem gone away.....might be worth a go? I did read the code but it was so generic as to be not terribly useful ie widget 'X' is out of position/ range......

Before spending a fortune, check the air filter. I had similar problems and the filter was clogged up with dust. Now runs without a hitch (or hiccup)

Take the oil filler cap off with the engine running, if it sounds like a tug boat you have a vacuum leak.

Its free and the easiest place to start .
