Default S/V90 rear door seals removing paint

Evening, just wondering if anyone has noticed any unexpected wear caused by the rear door seals that run along the back edge of the door ?

My early MY17 V90 has worn the paint down. I've only had the car 6 months and try to keep the seal clean, but cleaning and wiping the excess off with a silicon based cleaner isn't helping either.

Got the part no. from the seal, but it appears to have been superseded by another part no. now.

The seals on mine are fairly hard and plasticky, so wonder if softer ones are now fitted.

Just nipped out to have a look at mine, and yes it's just starting to wear the paint on the rear passenger side. Had a look at the seal and it appears to be a hard plastic with a softer rubber flap on the edge. The drivers side appears ok, but having said that both doors were replaced after a very nice man decided to use my car to stop his Audi...... Could be the door needs a bit of re-aligning ?

Poor design.. they should have put some sort of protection - vinyl film or something.. XC60 has the seal on the body, surrounding the wheel arch, and there's a thick vinyl protection on the door side, where it meets the seal.

Yep, your right with that Haldex. I seem to remember my XC90 had a clear vinyl patch on the door shuts.

Thanks everyone.

I would be good to see if anyone with a MY20 can confirm if later V90's have any protection film applied.

I think I'll order a replacement seal and see if it's any softer.

Either way, paint needs repaired and sone firm if protection applied to prevent further issues.

Bad design like you have said Haldex

For anyone interested, the N/S parts are:

Rear Seal - Volvo (32274033)

31395126, 31693614

31395126 is fitted to my MY17 car.

Just to confirm the MY20 V90 does not have any protection film and the associated seal is still hard (it is not soft and compliant like the inner seal). The paint is starting to wear probably from the dirt and grit on the seal when the door is opened and closed. Like yourself I will try to find some protection film for that area.

Thanks, that's handy to know. I've not got round to ordering any seals yet, so might just get the paint repaired and get some film applied.

I suspect like you said, its dirt getting trapped between the seal and the paint and closing the door along with some flex onnthe car is causing the damage.
